Eripio Health Welcomes Aviation Risk Consultant and Pilot Luke Westerhuis to the Team
Eripio Health is thrilled to announce the newest addition to our growing aeromedical operations team — Luke Westerhuis, an exceptional Aviation Risk Consultant and Pilot whose experience, leadership, and passion for remote medicine perfectly align with our mission to deliver world-class critical care, anywhere.
Luke brings with him a career steeped in aviation from a young age, having taken to the skies at just 11 years old. Born into a family of aviators, his journey has traversed the spectrum of flight - from remote general aviation to major international airline operations and, most notably, frontline aeromedical retrievals with the globally renowned Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
During his time with the RFDS, Luke held key positions including Senior Base Pilot and Flight Standards Check & Training Pilot on the Beechcraft B200 platform. These roles saw him flying into some of the world’s most challenging environments; including landing on remote highways in true bush pilot fashion. His ability to operate with precision in austere settings, without compromising on safety or patient care, makes him a perfect fit for Eripio Health’s ethos of delivering excellence to the most remote corners of the UK and beyond.
Luke has also held senior leadership posts such as Head of Flying Operations and Head of Training & Checking, underscoring his depth of experience not only as a pilot but as a strategic thinker and mentor. He holds an Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL-A), Multi-Engine Command Instrument Rating (MECIR), and a suite of type ratings, further highlighting his operational versatility and commitment to aviation standards.
“Luke’s reputation as a calm, capable, and innovative operator precedes him,” said Dr Daniel Leach, Medical Director of Eripio Health. “His RFDS pedigree and passion for delivering high-quality care in the hardest-to-reach areas mirrors exactly what we strive for at Eripio. We’re absolutely delighted to welcome him to the team.”
Luke joins Eripio Health at an exciting time, as we continue expanding our capabilities in air ambulance, repatriation, and remote clinical response, particularly across the UK’s island communities and underserved rural regions. With his rare blend of operational aviation experience and risk management expertise, Luke will be instrumental in strengthening our safety culture, refining flight operations, and mentoring the next generation of aeromedical pilots.
Luke himself is passionate about ensuring equity in healthcare access, stating:
“I’ve spent my career trying to ensure that geography doesn’t determine someone’s access to care. I’m proud to join a team that believes the same.”
Outside of his professional work, Luke keeps his love of flying alive by piloting historic warbirds, showcasing not only his skill but his deep-rooted love for aviation in all its forms.
Please join us in giving Luke a very warm welcome to the Eripio Health family.
