Eripio Health Welcomes Nigel Harling as Specialist Advisor
Eripio Health is delighted to announce the appointment of Nigel Harling as a Specialist Advisor, strengthening our leadership team with his wealth of expertise in mountain rescue, emergency services, and global expedition safety.
Nigel has dedicated his life to service, beginning his involvement in Mountain Rescue at just 18 years old. He has since held leadership roles with Longtown and Patterdale Mountain Rescue Teams, serving as Training Officer, Deputy Team Leader, Trustee, Association Secretary, and currently Chair of Trustees. Beyond his local contributions, he has made a national and international impact as Operations Lead with the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association (LDSAMRA), Helicopter Officer for Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW), and Vice President of the Air Commission within the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR). He also represents MREW at the UKSAR Air Assets Group and plays a key role as Secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Voluntary Search and Rescue.
A retired Police Officer, Nigel brings extensive operational and strategic experience from Emergency Planning, Counter-Terrorism, and Organised Crime units. He has also coordinated county-wide Search and Rescue responses as Secretariat of the Cumbria SAR Group. His expertise in safety and risk management extends globally, with leadership on youth and independent expeditions across six continents, involvement with Ukrainian aid charities, and responsibility for safety on the recent expedition retracing Bertram Thomas’s journey across Oman. He continues to pioneer innovation in search technologies as a UK ambassador and instructor for Recco, a specialist avalanche and ground search tool.
In addition to his rescue and expedition commitments, Nigel has an impressive history of community service, including leadership roles with schools, sports clubs, and youth organisations. He is currently Chair of Penrith Swimming Club, a Trustee of the Andrew Croft Memorial Fund, and District Commissioner for Eden District Scouts.
Adding to his remarkable story, Nigel once held the world record for crossing Greenland on skis using parachutes, completing an East-to-West traverse that stood unchallenged for 25 years.
Tania Leach, Chief Technical Officer of Eripio Health, commented:
“Nigel’s appointment brings unparalleled expertise and international standing to Eripio Health. His lifelong commitment to rescue, risk management, and youth development aligns perfectly with our mission to lead the future of repatriation and pre-hospital care. We are thrilled to welcome him to our team.”
Nigel’s experience and leadership will be invaluable as Eripio Health continues to expand its role in advancing patient safety, international repatriation, and specialist medical services.
